As we close out another banner year at JMIR Publications, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the incredible growth of our YouTube community. In 2025, our mission to make high-impact research accessible reached new heights through our video series: Decoding Digital Health: Author Stories.
With 165 new videos submitted by our authors this year, this series has become a vital platform for researchers to break down complex studies into understandable, real-world insights. By moving beyond the printed page, our authors are humanizing their data and ensuring their discoveries resonate with clinicians, patients, and the broader digital health community.
Based on our record-breaking submissions, here are the five key themes that defined the year.
2025 was the year Large Language Models (LLMs) moved from theoretical curiosity to practical clinical integration. Our authors explored how AI can act as a "third agent" in the exam room, aiding in everything from nursing education to automated diagnostics.
We are seeing a decisive shift away from "one-size-fits-all" medicine. The research in 2025 emphasized Precision Behavioral Health (PBH), using digital tools to tailor mental health support to the unique clinical profile of each individual.
A major priority this year was ensuring that digital health doesn't leave the anyone behind. From older adults to minoritized communities, the 2025 cohort focused on inclusive design and the specific needs of sometimes underserved populations.
Social media has matured into a critical piece of public health infrastructure. Researchers are no longer just observing social platforms; they are using them for real-time disease surveillance and large-scale patient advocacy.
The intersection of technology and daily habits dominated the conversation this year. Whether it's the impact of diet on chronic conditions or the link between physical activity and mental recovery, authors are using digital tools to prove that lifestyle is the ultimate intervention.
The success of 2025 has shown us that there is a demand for accessible science. We want to thank every author who took the time to step in front of the camera this year to share their work with the world.
