Explore the Benefits of an Institutional Partnership

At JMIR Publications, we believe in making open access (OA) publishing as seamless and accessible as possible. That's why we're proud to partner with institutions like ZB MED to implement transformative publishing agreements that benefit the entire research community.
Recently, we hosted a webinar focused on the success of these Flat Fee Unlimited OA Publishing Partnerships, designed to show how they can enhance research support efforts on your campus. For those who registered but couldn't attend—or anyone interested in the future of OA—the insights shared demonstrate a clear path forward.
You can view the presentation slides to get a detailed overview of the agreement and its benefits:
Open Access Publishing: Free to read and reuse, it boosts audience and discovery. While Article Processing Charges fund quality publishing, they pose financial and administrative barriers. Institutional support to remove APCs fosters equity, visibility, and impact.
JMIR Publications is a pioneer in open access since 1999, specializing in leading digital health journals with a high impact factor. JMIR emphasizes their commitment to quality and being author-focused.
Open Access publishing has been demonstrated to increase the visibility and impact of research. JMIR's more than 30 journals include many high impact titles, notably JMIR Aging and JMIR Medical Education are the top journals in their categories.
JMIR Publications has been experiencing increased growth and engagement from around the world: In 2023, contributors from 2,690 organizations across 104 countries participated published with JMIR. In 2024, over 4 million articles were read, with website visitors from 236 locations and submissions from 118 countries. In 2025, JMIR is projecting to publish 6,500 articles.
For our partners, Mike Byer, JMIR's Institutional Partnership Lead, is the first point of contact for inquiries about opportunity. During the agreement, you will also meet Natalia March, our Author Experience Manager, and Monisha Swaminathan, a Senior Production Editor who manages article eligibility.
Removing Obstacles, Exceeding Expectations
Our flat fee partnership model is built on a simple commitment: to expand open access publishing opportunities by removing financial and administrative obstacles.
We spent some time in the webinar discussing the Jisc UK library agreements and how successful they've become. These partnerships haven't just met expectations; they've exceeded them, greatly improving the Open Access publishing experience for UK researchers. By pre-paying publication fees through a single annual agreement, we eliminate the per-article fee process, making it easier for researchers to publish in JMIR's high-impact journals without dealing with transactional payments.
